USSSA Announces Additions to National Umpire Leadership
USSSA is excited to announce the addition of three appointments to the National Umpire Leadership Team. Don Briscoe has been named as the Assistant National Director of Officials and will work directly with David Maury, the National Director of Officials. Eric ‘Slim’ Rice has been named as the National UIC for USSSA Slow Pitch and GSL while Tim Cordill has been named as the National UIC for Baseball.
“I am excited to add the experience and professionalism of Don, Eric and Tim. It was important to have a National UIC dedicated to each of our three diamond sports. Eric and Tim join Victor Canales who remains the National UIC for USSSA Fastpitch. Adding Don Briscoe as the Assistant National Director will be a huge addition to the overall operations of our National Umpire Program,” said Maury.
Don Briscoe is a 35 year veteran of officiating and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to USSSA. Don serves as a board member of the Deluth Georgia Umpires Association. He has served on the NCAA staff of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and seven other conferences. For the past three years Briscoe has served as the National Rules Coordinator for USSSA Fastpitch. He also currently serves as the Georgia State UIC for fastpitch and has umpired 16 National/World Tournaments along with serving as the UIC for eight USSSA Fastpitch National Tournaments. Don is a contributor to Blue Book60 and Referee Magazine. He is married with three adult children.
Eric “Slim” Rice, who was already serving as the National UIC of GSL, will now assume the same duties for our USSSA Slow Pitch program as well. Rice has over 19 years of experience as an umpire and has held the GSL UIC position since 2018 and the Southern Ohio UIC position for the last five years. Slim has been named USSSA Conference Rookie Umpire of the Year, USSSA and GSL Umpire of the Year during his career. Slim, who is a very well respected official in the slow pitch community, said he is very excited to assume his new responsibilities and looks forward to working with David Maury to help take the umpire program to the next level. “I have worked very hard to get where I am today and it’s a great honor and privilege to accept this position with one of the best organizations in the country!”
Tim Cordill brings a tremendous amount of experience and energy to USSSA.
