OHIO/Tri-State Slow Pitch usssa/gsl
Hello Softball Squad of Ohio,
The first USSSA/ GSL Softball Tournament occurred this past weekend and boy was it great to be outside! The weather, although cold at times, was perfect for championship Sunday. Mid-America Ballyard in conjunction with River City West and Kenton Lakes Hosted a 56 team tournament in which over $9500 of prizes were given out to the winners. We witnessed a lot of great battles play out on the diamonds over the weekend, but it was the following teams that eventually came out on top.
In the C-Division DWS held to a perfect record by defeating ACCU-COM/CSB/CK Painting/Headlines in a 27-25 victory in the championship game. It was this game when MVP Josh Hugentobler demonstrated he has what it takes to help his team be successful. Luke Ross earned ODP for his strong will and great glove as his team fought through the loser’s bracket sending 3 teams packing.
In the D-Division Clutch/Grizzy Athletics/Pine/MAB edged out EOS/IDS in a 11-8 victory. This All Defensive Battle on both sides was led by MVP Brandon Schaiper and ODP John Thompson. Both teams showed grit and determination, but ultimately it was Schaiper’s leadership and pitching which helped Clutch stand strong in the end.
In the E-Division NKYHatesHeroin/ Banditos stepped up to the plate and fought hard defeating Hard Knocks in a 19-18 battle. This game could have gone either way, but MVP Tyler Johnson helped his team overcome their tough opponent pulling off the win. ODP Reid Haefner gave it all he had, coming up with numerous great plays throughout the tournament, but his team couldn’t quite close it out.
Look out for all these teams in the tournaments to come. We all know the winter rust was falling off as everyone oiled their joints and got going this season. This year will hold many victories, many upsets and a whole lot of fun. Any tournament could be yours.
